The Clare Hurling Club History

The Clare Hurling Club of New York was founded in 1917. Success came soon after when they won the Senior Championship in 1921. A barren spell followed for a good number of years until the late 60’s when a golden era for Clare began. It began in 1967-1968-1969 for a 3-in-a-row, and further wins in 1972, 1975, 1978, 1980 and 1981 made Clare a powerhouse at the time.

In 1986, a Junior team was added but Clare lost both finals that year. Our last title came in 1991 giving us (10) Senior Hurling titles. Another lean spell followed and sadly, due to lack of numbers, the Club folded in early 2005.

It remained dormant for 16-years until 2021, when, under a dynamic new committee, the Club was restarted and a team was entered into the Junior Division of the NYGAA. A year later, hard work paid off and the Junior championship was won, and so begins a new era!
